Impoliteness Strategies in Trevor Noah’s Afraid of The Dark Stand-up Comedy Show

This research focuses on identifying the impoliteness strategies and explaining purposes of most frequently used strategy in Afraid Dark stand-up comedy show performed by Trevor Noah. The data this are Noah’s utterances which contains strategies. analysis was based theory proposed Jonathan Culpeper (1996). result shows that Noah uses 105 instances cover all five types Culpeper; bald record impoliteness, positive negative sarcasm or mock politeness, withhold politeness. Based findings, is found to be strategy. It occurs 42 times with a percentage 40% whole data. high frequency entertain audience. mostly ‘condescend, scorn, ridicule’ sub-strategies intended amuse audience also induce laughter when hearing one being ridiculed disparaged.
